Bruksizam je medicinski izraz za prekomerno, forsirano stiskanje i škripanje (škrgutanje) zubima koje nije povezano sa žvakanjem hrane, a obično se javlja noću. Izaziva dugo i jako opterećenje zuba i njihovih potpornih struktura. Obično ima veze sa napetošću, stresom, strahom ili zamorom. Manifestuje se kao nesvesno stiskanje zuba povezano sa snažnim pokretima donje vilice levo-desno i napred-nazad zbog čega dolazi do škripanja i trošenja zuba brušenjem zuba o zub.

 

Postoje dva načina da saznate da imate bruksizam. Prvi je kada se Vaš partner se žali o tome i drugi je kada se budite sa bolom u vilici ili konstatntnim glavoboljama. U svakom slučaju, pregled kod stomatologa je neophodan.

 

Posledice bruksizma:

  • Osetljivost kada grizete  hranu
  • Osetljivost na vruće ili hladno jelo
  • U težim slučajevima prelom zuba

  • Smanjite konzumaciju alkohola i unos kofeina
  • Ako je bruksizam noćni problem pitajte svog stomatologa da Vam preporuči štitnike za noć
  • Ako Vaš stomatolog proceni da je bruksizam nastao usled nepravilnog zagrižaja, on će možda predložiti ortodontsku terapiju

 

Bruksizam u brojkama
Pogađa 6-8% odraslih i 15-20% dece. Jedna studija je pokazala da ljudi tokom 8 sati sna uobičajeno ostvaruju 250 zubnih kontakata, dok ljudi koji pate od bruksizma ostvare 1 200 do 12 000.

Causing a long and strong pressure on teeth and supporting structures. Usually, it is related with tension, stress, fear or fatigue. It is manifested as unconsciously strong jaw and tooth movements left to right and back and forth causing wear of teeth by teeth grinding.

 

There are two ways one can know if they have bruxism, first is when your partner complains about it and second is when after a night’s sleep you get up with an ache in your jaws or a slight, persistent headache. Whatever the case, a checkup by the dentist is pertinent.

 

Consequences of teeth grinding or clenching:

  • There are many outcomes to teeth grinding two of which are mentioned above:
  • Severe toothache
  • Sensitive to biting food
  • Sensitive to hot or cold food
  • In advanced cases the teeth can break or result in fractures

Precaution And Treatment

  • Lower stress and relax daily.
  • Reduce alcohol consumption and intake of caffeine.
  • If grinding becomes a problem at night ask your dentist to recommend a nightguard.
  • If your dentist says it is caused because of irregular bite, he would suggest teeth alignment.


 

Bruxism in numbers

It affects 6-8% of adults and 15-20% of children. One study showed that people during 8 hours of sleep usually achieved 250 dental contact, and people who suffer from bruxism 12 000 – 12 000.
